Cooking Tips by Big Wanda Knows

Cooking is love and Big Wanda loves to cook for her family and friends. Cooking can be easy or it can be quite challenging. Here at the Big Wanda Knows website  we are going for easy and quick recipes. Some of the recipes are decades old and were handed down from family members. All of the recipes are delicious.

Big Wanda was not born in the south but she has lived in the south for many years. Many of the tasty recipes here at the website are a true southern recipes but enhanced with the Big Wanda Knows touch.  Big Wanda has been very fortunate to have friends who gave her a cherished family recipe for the Big Wanda Knows website.

There are two parts to cooking a great meal. First you need to start with a great recipe and second you need to know cooking tips that will save you time and frustration.

Four basic cooking seasonings that are needed to add flavor to your savory meals.

  1. Kosher salt — This is so much better than table salt.
  2. Black Pepper — Freshly grinded is the best. Get yourself a can of peppercorns and a pepper grinder.
  3. Garlic Powder — Big Wanda only uses 100% all American garlic from California. Say no to garlic from China!!!
  4. Onion Powder —  Big Wanda prefers onion powder over onion flakes.

There are several kitchen gadgets that will make your cooking less stressful. All of the gadgets listed will have a economical version, middle of the road option and a high end brand. Purchase what you can afford.

1 .Blender,stand mixer and a hand mixer

2. Food processor or manual chopper

3. Sharp Knives, mesauring spoons, measuring cups for dry ingredients and a glass measuirng cup for liquids.

4. Various sized wood, metal and rubber spatulas

5. Set of stainless steel cookware will usually have 2 different sized frying  pans, 2 covered sauce pots, 8-10 quart stockpot, 3 inch deep saute pan

6. Cast iron skillet. If you have a flatop stove read the stove’s directions because sometimes you can not use a cast iron skillet.

7. Non-stick frying pan

8. Sheetpans, 12 cup muffin pan, bread loaf pan

9. Meat thermometer, tongs, soup ladle, strainer, wire whisk, citrus reamer, wood and plastic cutting boards

10. Not necessary but so nice to own. large griddle, bread maker, convection microwave
